The World’s 50 Best Bars 2017

World's 50 Best Bars

The World’s 50 Best Bars announced its highly anticipated list and awards at a live ceremony in London’s Southwark Cathedral yesterday (5th October).

It’s a pretty big deal in the bar world, created by the votes of an Academy of over 500 members from 55 countries.

So you could say the list is the ultimate guide to the top bars and drinking hotspots around the globe, with restaurant bars, speakeasies and hotel bars all contributing to the list. This year’s ranking includes bars from 24 cities in 19 countries, and boasts a total of 7 new entries and 4 re-entries.

So who came out on top? American Bar at London’s Savoy Hotel was voted The World’s Best Bar for the first time, also claiming Best Bar in Europe, sponsored by Tanqueray. London retained its crown as the cocktail capital of the world with 8 bars in The World’s 50 Best Bars and 4 in the top 10 – one more than New York (not that we’re counting or anything). Iain Griffiths, innovative bartender behind London’s Dandelyan and White Lyan, was named Bartenders’ Bartender. London’s hotel bars had a great night, with 3 included in the top 5; The American Bar at The Savoy, Dandelyan at Mondrian Hotel, and The Connaught Bar at The Connaught Hotel. Bar Termini, Soho’s tiny visionary cocktail bar, storms up the list a dramatic 21 places into the top 10 at No.9. Nightjar, a returning favourite, is joined for the second time by sister venue Oriole. Whilst East London hotspots Happiness Forgets and The Gibson continue their regular appearances in The World’s 50 Best Bars.
