With Spring officially Sprung, it’s time for lighter, brighter menus in light, bright dining rooms.
Sea Containers at Mondrian London is one such place and they are currently running a Spring on the Southbank menu that’s really great value.
Choose from three starters, mains and desserts and pay just £25 for two or £30 for three. Unfortunately it can’t be combined with the unlimited prosecco offer (£16 with any brunch dish) but is still a pretty good deal.
Go for a bottle of the Héraldique ‘Cuvée Prestige’ Pays D’Oc from the Languedoc region instead – just the easy drinking white you’ll want when the sun’s out.
To start the smoked salmon is beautifully presented, with pickled cucumber and horseradish. Beef carpaccio had a delicious blue cheese dressing, lashings of parmesan shavings and a handful of rocket. The Burrata wasn’t as luxuriously creamy as it should have been (did someone forget to get it out of the fridge?) but the assorted tomatoes were delicious.
Onto mains and you’ll want to order the hanger steak. Exceptionally good value, the meat is served with spring greens and bone marrow. Portion sizes were good, especially for lunch, but we couldn’t resist a couple of sides. Chips are served with the most incredible spicy mayo dip, and the mac & cheese had a glorious golden topping.
If you’ve still got space the desserts are homely and comforting. Choose from Rhubarb & Apple Crumble (served with a light vanilla custard) or a melt in the middle Chocolate Lava cake.
Even if it’s too cold for the terrace to be open, the floor to ceiling glass windows let all the light flood in, allowing you to soak up the sun & enjoy the Southbank’s glorious views.
And if you’re having too much fun to call it a night, don’t forget the award winning Dandelyan bar is just next door. The Jurassic Jungle No.2 is THE taste of summer, served in a Tiki mug it’s a tasty concoction of banana, rum, mint and coconut.
