Nestled in a picturesque part of Wiltshire, The Farm at Avebury is the ultimate feel-good spot for a bit of family R&R. It’s just moments from the Avebury Stone Circle, a lesser-known, but no less impressive, neolithic monument that predates Stonehenge.
It’s the vision of husband and wife Alice and Rob Hues, a warm, friendly couple who’ve cleverly opened up their family farm, to accommodate guests in six chic converted stables. Perfect for groups looking to hire out the whole lot, or cosy family self-catering stays, everything has been designed with kids in mind, so if you’re coming with little ones, you won’t need to worry about a thing.
The stables sleep between two and six (some can be connected), and all are centred around a stunning landscaped courtyard. It’s the perfect spot for guests to enjoy a glass of wine, use the BBQs provided and soak up the farmyard vibes. The rooms themselves have been decorated to a high spec. We were obsessed with our pink bathroom and self-closing velux windows that can sense rain (very clever!). Kitchens come complete with cookbooks and kids cutlery, with highchairs, nappy bins and cots all available on request. And in the boot rooms you’ll even find dog beds and child carriers — they really have thought of everything.
We did a massive shop in nearby Marlborough for all the essentials, however, we’d also pre-ordered eggs, bacon, sausages and steak directly from the farm itself, which was left in our fridge on arrival. The local apple juice, butter and bread was such a nice touch too, and the perfect base for breakfast.
On site there’s friendly horses who like a head scratch, the cutest piglets who ran alongside the car as we drove in, and lambs aplenty. There’s a wooden playground in the orchard, and even a play barn with bouncy castle and mini ride-on cars and diggers. Heaven for little ones and a bit of much needed relief for adults. The stone circle is well worth a run around on a nice day, and Alice and Rob have provided a number of walking routes suitable for even the littlest of legs, upwards.
Staying a little longer? There’s tons to do within easy reach too, including Cotswold Wildlife Park, Longleat Safari, and the Goat Farmer where you can get your fill of inquisitive goats.
It would be super cosy in the winter, however we think summer is where this place shines, and we were blessed with such unseasonably good weather. We’d love to return to hire the whole place out. When you do, you also get full use of The Barn, a space which can seat 42 people on long tables, or be used for the likes of yoga. It would be gorgeous for a big birthday or hen do (they can organise hot tubs), or even smaller weddings.
Alice, Rob and their kids are such lovely hosts that you really can’t fail to have a great stay here, and we’re already thinking up an excuse to return!
