People just don’t visit Lido’s enough in the Winter do they?
The Lido Cafe shows us that casual chic dining isn’t just exclusive to the East of London.
In the building adjoining the pool of Brockwell Lido, the Lido Café is a cosy and casual dining room. Decorated with Christmassy and retro knik knaks; it is only a small room but we felt we had our own space and definitely didn’t feel overlooked by other diners. We loved the wallpaper and the welcoming atmosphere; right up our street!
The staff were fun and chatty, even more so when we asked what they’d suggest. The Black Watch Scotch Egg with Quince Chutney starter comes highly recommended and won’t disappoint! And at £5.50, as with the rest of the menu, it’s an affordable dinner.
One of the specials was the game hotdog served with chips and cranberry ketchup. It did taste great and the cranberry ketchup was delicious. Could of done with a little pot of that on its own 🙂
The desserts are simple and homely; the Pear, Ginger and Cranberry Crumble was topped with a brilliant thick crunchy crumble which was a nice take on the norm. Maybe too much ginger for my liking but the salted caramel was a great accompaniment.
The setting, atmosphere, quality and price of the food here definitely make it worth a visit. So if you’re not south of the river, don’t overlook it. The bus stops right outside so top up your Oyster and book yourself a table!
