New vegan menu at Stokey Bears, Haggerston

Stokey Bear

We’ve long been fans of Burger Bear (ever since Tom, the main bear behind the burger) came to the rescue with his hangover baps. We’ve also been known to seek him out at Glastonbury, where his disco van churned out late night fodder in between acts. So we were ‘stoked’ (see what we did there?) to see them branching out of Stokey and opening another site just down the road in Haggerston.

You’ll find all your favourite burgers are still on the menu, including the show-stopping ‘Grizzly Bear’ topped with double oak-smoked bacon and bacon jam, and voted 4th best burger in London by Time Out; the classic ‘Burger Bear’ cheese burger; the ‘Angry Bear’, doused in the Rib Man’s Holy F**K hot sauce and helluvapino relish; and finally, one for the brave – the ‘Triple Threat’, which combines all three into one epic stacked burger. All Stokey Bears’ beef burgers are made fresh from 100% grass-fed Sussex beef courtesy of Flock and Herd butchers in Peckham.

But aside from that meat feast, there’s also a brand spanking new vegan offer – and not just one token burger, it’s an entire animal-free menu. The veggie patty is made from kidney beans, salsa, coriander, chilli flakes, rubbed in BBQ spice and covered in a crispy coating, and comes in the same ‘Angry’, ‘Grizzly’ and ‘Triple Threat’ options, with a Karma Cola jam on the Grizzly. There’s also a seitan ‘chicken’ burger, and the Koala Bear, made from spiced bean burger, avocado, salsa, lime and coriander coconut yoghurt.

The new spot will open from 10am at the weekends (see above re hangover busting properties), and there’s a cute little beer garden out the back so you can make the most of this glorious heatwave we’re having. We think the prosecco mojito would taste particularly glorious in the sun.
