JinJuu: Girls Can Grill

JinJuu

JinJuu, the Soho Korean hotspot from celeb chef Judy Joo, will be a hosting a one-off girls grill-off, inviting some of London’s leading female chefs to cook with fire in the open kitchen, tucked beneath the restaurant. A celebration of the female forces behind London’s food scene, the line-up for the event will see Jane Alty of The Begging Bowl, Anna Hansen from The Modern Pantry and Vicky Heafield, Head Chef at Berber & Q Shawarma Bar, as well as Judy herself.

Upon arrival, guests will be welcomed with a Korean soju cocktail before settling in to see the chefs in action. Each of the ladies will be paying homage to the traditional Korean ssam, putting their own spin on the dish of barbecued meat, topped with a sauce and wrapped in crispy lettuce. Jane Alty will be bringing the spicy, sour blend of her Thai street food to the dish with a ssam off grilled naem (fermented sour pork shoulder) with ssamjang sauce, pickled morning glory, Thai peanuts, ginger and shallot dressing and toasted ground rice, wrapped in crispy lettuce. This will be followed by Anna Hansen’s ssam of kashmeri masala lamb shoulder, roast tomato, coconut and lemongrass sambal. No stranger to a barbecue, Vicky Heafield of Berber & Q Shawarma Bar will serve up a chargrilled lamb neck ssam, wrapped in butter lettuce and topped with s’cug, miso tahini, bread and butter pickles and fermented chillies. I mean, how insanely delicious does that sound? Sticking to her roots, Judy Joo will be on hand to offer a ssam in its most authentic form. You’ll have to be quick though, each guest’s ssam will appear on the Jinjuu menu for a week in turn, following the event.
