Carousel, the Marylebone restaurant and culinary hub for immerging and established international chef talent, will this September play host to the super lovely respected cook book author, food writer, chef and adventurer John Gregory-Smith. Inspired by his extensive travels around Turkey, John will present dishes taken from his new cook book ‘Turkish Delights’ (published 3rd September) at Carousel from 1st through to 5th September.
John’s five-course dinner and three-course lunch menu will take diners on their own Turkish adventure, from the snow-capped mountains in the east, to the pine forests and the Black Sea in the north. From light meze dips ‘Haydari’ and ‘Muhammara’, both served with homemade flatbreads, to coastal specialities such as ‘Charcoal grilled sardines’ through to more indulgent feasting dishes such as Ali Narzik – ‘Lamb tenderloin seared on the grill, served with labna, smoked aubergine paste & chilli butter’.
Turkish Delights is John’s third cook book, following the acclaimed Mighty Spice Kitchen and Mighty Spice Express, and draws inspiration from his foodie adventures travelling around Turkey, with friends and family. Having explored the length and breadth of the country, John’s fondest memories were of the dishes he ate and the bold flavours he encountered; from roadside stalls serving fiery eastern kebabs to the more opulent Ottoman dishes served in high-end restaurants in the cities. Turkey is renowned for its incredible variety in food offerings, a result of its dramatic history and landscapes, and that it borders countries from the Middle East and Mediterranean, both of which offer unique cuisines and flavour combinations.
John Gregory-Smith’s ‘Turkish Delights’ guest chef residency at Carousel will run from Tuesday 1st to Saturday 5th September and offer a one to three course lunch and a five course dinner menu.
