Brunch – unquestionably the most indulgent meal of the day. No where more so than at New Street Grill where they just so happen to have launched their spectacular new brunch menu.
New Street Grill have come up with a great set price menu offering 2 courses for £20 or 3 for £25 with UNLIMITED prosecco or bloody marys for an additional £10.
At first glance I found the menu a little confusing with starters of the breakfast variety including boiled egg with marmite soldiers and granola, berry compote & yoghurt.
However I soon came around to the idea of spending a few hours here, starting with breakfast before moving on to something a little more substantial around lunch time. I think it was the prosecco.
So we kicked things off with our breakfast style starters!
The sautéed wild mushrooms & poached egg on sourdough toast was picture perfect but could have taken a little more seasoning, the montgomery cheddar & red onion chutney toastie – which I was assured was a starter – was in reality a full size chunky toastie, packed with deliciously mature cheese with the option of white or brown bread. A very substantial starter, but far too good to resist.
Mains included a posh take on the classic full english breakfast – dripping fried bread, Gloucester Old Spot bacon & eggs or a more refined Lobster macaroni. We opted for the fish pie which came in a delightful old tin, an appropriate sized portion after the toastie and topped with creamy mash with the perfect crust.
You can also upscale and go for the traditional Sunday Roast with an option of either Pork or Beef served with all the trimmings. Generous portion sizes provoked a homemade feel but the quality of beef and veg rivalled those of the best in London. And trust us, we’ve tried them all in the name of research.
All the while the prosecco flows and flows…..
Now well and truly into our food comas we ordered desserts out of sheer greed.
This portion of the menu continues the homemade feel with Jam roly poly & Spotted Dick featuring. We opted for the decadent Chocolate tart served with a gorgeous scoop of clotted cream. Raspberry & mint sorbet with fresh raspberries was meltingly refreshing and a slightly lighter option for those wanting something less robust.
Coffee is served with caramel truffles, worth ordering for this alone!
We can’t wait to return with a big group of friends to share this with – great value, luxurious setting, quality food. Highly recommended.
