After years of building up a glowing street food rep, Breddos have gone and opened the doors to their first permanent site in Clerkenwell. Hurrah!
The cosy restaurant takes inspo from the roadside taquerias visited by founders, Nud Dudhia and Chris Whitney, on their extensive travels throughout Mexico and America. They don’t take bookings so get there early (it’s already crazy popular!). There’s a large 10 seater sharing table (bring the gang) and 4 seater banquets but we loved the bar seats where we watched those killer Margarita’s being made. They go down a dream but pack a PUNCH. There’s even a wall of vintage vinyl which you’re free to play DJ with.
We started with some of the best ceviche we’ve EVER had. Not too delicate and fine, nor too thick and chewy – the red mullet was bloody perfect – served with mescal, grasshopper salsa and PROPER corn chips.
Obviously it’s all about the Taco’s here. You’ll want a couple each – we loved the crispy chicken with roasted habanero and the delicate Baja fried fish with lime mayo. Grab a crispy tostada for good measure – the bone marrow is chunky & seasoned to perfection. However, you do not want to miss the larger plates either. You’ll no doubt have seen the epic pork chop on your Insta feed – it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. The pork chop sits atop grilled spring onions and salad, the juices from the chop soaking everything with deliciousness. SO SO GOOD. Just when things couldn’t really get any better we tucked into Queso Fundido – essentially a dish of melted cheese and minced chorizo with thin fried potato slices for scooping the whole glorious thing directly into your mouth. It’s what dreams are made from.
It’s rare that every single dish is great – but every single dish was great – and we promise that’s not the Margarita’s talking.
Open for takeaway, breakfast, lunch and dinner, 7 days a week – you’ll find us at the bar.
