Horatio Street Social Club

Horatio Street Social Club

Tucked away in the basement of The Nelson’s Head is Horatio Street Social Club – a new bar from Simon Thompson and Jake O’Brien Murphy, who previously worked together at award-winning cocktail bar Callooh Callay.

Upstairs you’ll find a proper boozer, but hidden below is a top notch drinking den with neighbourhood vibes.

The ethos of Horatio Street Social Club is underpinned by Simon and Jake’s belief that a night out is an important part of anyone’s social life. This means an emphasis on hospitality and making people feel welcome, as well as a cocktail menu which is innovative with world class drinks that are still accessible in flavour and price. Which is exactly what they’ve achieved. Why should I have to go central to get a banging cocktail I ask you??

The house cocktails are priced at £9, and although some of them are reminiscent of classics, they’ve all been given a fresh twist. You’re better off telling the bartender (who, we loved btw), what you normally drink and he’ll suggest the best one for you. We started with a ‘Kill the Cook’ – similar to a margarita but with an injection of fresh red pepper on top of tequila, it’s a real party starter. This is how all Friday nights should start in fact. If Old Fashioned’s are more your thing, you’ll love Garfield’s Funeral. This cheery little number is a beefed up version of the old classic, with a dark, woody, musty smell of whisky barrel.

This team aren’t resting on their laurels though – the menu will be changing monthly, giving you a good reason to return regularly.

Stay tuned – we’re told there are more social clubs on the horizon…
