We LOVE London but sometimes it’s great to escape and we’ve found just the place for you foodies to do it!
You’ll know the Daylesford name of course, and we are all excited for the arrival of their Marylebone cafe this May, but we are here to tell you all about The Daylesford Summer Festival, a family celebration of summer, organic food and farming.
This year the festival theme is “Celebrate Organic” with lots of engaging activities, talks and stands (plus live music, entertainment and fantastic food) offering a behind-the-scenes look at Daylesford and how organic farming is here to stay.
Guests will be welcome to participate in the popular farm tours, market garden tours and guided walks. For those curious for more insight into the growing organic movement there will be a Q&A session in the Straw Barn entitled ‘Why Organic?’, which will bring together Soil Association’s Helen Browning, food writer Rose Prince and Daylesford’s Richard Smith, chaired by Daylesford’s environmental scientist Tim Field. It should be a great opportunity for people to find out more about organic farming and food.
The Cookery School will host an open house with exciting demonstrations from special guests Madeleine Shaw and Rose Prince as well as Blanche Vaughan who will be signing copies of her latest book, ‘Egg‘.
Other VIPs waiting to meet the guests are the Daylesford farm animals. As well as opportunities to get close to rare, native and pedigree breeds in the Straw Barn and Dairy Barn, there will also be sheep shearing and sheepdog demonstrations!
Got your own pooch? They are welcome too and a highlight of the festival is always the Lily’s Kitchen Dog Show – will your pooch win Waggiest Tail or Best Dressed?
Kids are looked after at The Children’s Corner, with a variety of entertaining and educational activities including lollipop decorating, vintage pedal cars and seed planting.
Of course, there will be a staggering range of tempting food and drink from the Producers Market and the Prosecco and Léoube bar, and they can’t wait to fire up the barbecue and wood oven to transform their farm’s organic meat into sizzling summer treats. Naturally, plenty of artisan ice cream and refreshing soft drinks will be available to complete a perfect summer’s day out.
Sound like the perfect escape? Well it’s even better, tickets for the event are FREE!
