The Arts Theatre Club

Soho has an insane amount of amazing restaurants but when it comes to good bars, it seems like there are far fewer.

The Arts Theatre Club originally opened in 1927 and is re-launching this month with a new vibe and drinks menu. They are located on Frith St in a basement just below the Japanese restaurant Koya.

This speakeasy has a great vibe with the DJ spinning 50’s swing music, charming waiters that are happy to take your order (as opposed to some other of these cocktail bars with pretentious staff!) and the candle-lit tables in the corner make this bar a perfect date spot or you can grab a larger booth to booze it up with your friends. Drinks are also a bargain for the area, at £4.50 for a glass of wine, £4 for a beer, cocktails starting at £8.50, or if you’re really thirsty or feel like sharing, get a teapot for four people for £15.90.

Their seasonal menu – Victorian Variety – had a mix of some delicious classics but most had some really interesting combinations. We tried the Kentucky Kevin with bacon-infused Woodford Reserve, maple syrup and orange bitters which was served with a strip of crispy bacon. The Deadwood Dick is a fantastic drink for those who like it hot with jalapeño-infused Patron Tequila, Grand Marnier and fresh limes, rimmed with chili flakes. The Josh & Joan the married contortionists was a firm favorite with Star of Bombay Gin, agave, Aperol, Campari, strawberries, lemons, basil and egg white.

Whether the drinks were served in snow, came in a flask, had smoked ash bitters or bacon strips, we couldn’t wait for the next one to come to see how it would be presented or if it would be more delicious than the previous one!
