Fresh of the back of their banging pop-up at F. Cooke on Broadway Market we are delighted to tell you Sabel is back at Palm 2 in Clapton!
Starting on June 12th, if you missed out last time, you’ve been given a second chance!
A lovely light airy space, these guys are serving up some real treats, communal style.
We snacked on Lamb Scrumpets (no, we weren’t sure what these were either! Breaded fingers of lamb, think a super upgraded chicken goujon!) dipped in a redcurrant & mint sauce. SO good we had to remind ourselves this was just the start of a FEAST.
Breakfast radish was served with the tops on – there’s something pretty satisfying about dipping these bad boys in cod’s roe and chomping through a plate of them.
Then the real starters came. I’m a huge fan of fresh tomatoes and this salad really hit the spot. Teamed with ticklemore cheese, lovage and seeds, I could easily have had this as my main course.
Cured pork with pickled pear was a treat and the Cornish sardines were stunningly presented, with a gorgeous crumb of fennel, citrus and bottega.
By this point I thought we were on the home straight, but no, HUGE plates of beef cheek arrived on piles of smoked mash. Absolutely delicious, you will not leave Sabel hungry. They brought over extra mash just to make sure.
Griddled cabbage with hazelnuts was the perfect accompaniment but the poor herb salad had too much to compete with to get a look in.
Just when you think you have no more room for another bite, egg custard, fresh out of the oven turns up to tempt you with a selection of summer berries marinated in brown sugar and a good helping of lavender.
All in all, one of the best pop-up’s we’ve been to in a while and it deserves to be a sell-out success.
