Drinking cider in the woods certainly has moved on a whole lot since I was kid.
Tonight there wasn’t a single drop of White Lightning, no discovery of dubiously stashed porn magazines and no dog shit.
Instead, we had a delightful selection of ciders, with a canapé to accompany our tasting tray, a beautiful woodland setting – indoors (!) and a DJ set so familiar I almost thought someone had pinched my Spotify account.
On one of the coldest evenings this winter so far, it was a welcomed relief to be inside, yet outside, amongst the amazingly decorated WinterForest. Honestly, I had presumed a scantily filled gallery space, am expensive bar and some pine trees dotted around in pots. But bravo Rekorderlig, bravo – sitting amongst the forest foliage, with moody smoke filtering through the leaves was even more realistic than the woodland bar that was set out this summer for London Wonderground on Southbank, which actually WAS outdoors!
The Ciders were all sweet and more’ish – as can be expected from Rekorderlig and they were all coupled with small dishes. Though we went straight for the warmed winter cider which we had with our platter. Rekorderlig can be one of those ciders that you tar with the Kopperberg brush for being sickly sweet but their cocktails tonight proved otherwise as did the warmed cider. I could have sat there all evening drinking cider, cider cocktail and warmed cider on rotation!
