M&S Fairtrade Mother’s Day Gifts

To mark the end of Fairtrade Fortnight and just in time for Mother’s Day (or Mothering Sunday as Joanna Lumley insists we call it) we’ve teamed up with M&S to select our favourite Fairtrade treats that would be perfect for gifting.

Fairtrade is something that we feel very strongly about. Having visited a farm that was directly benefiting from the Fairtrade system, we can see the difference it makes to entire communities, when we spend with our conscious. We wrote about some of the more unusual Fairtrade food & drink on the market here (Fairtrade quinoa vodka, anyone?) but we think the following Fairtrade treats from high street favourites M&S would make a gorgeous hamper for Mother’s Day. Having been a long standing supporter of Fairtrade for over 12 years now, they were the first retailer to convert all their tea and coffee to Fairtrade.

Even their gorgeous bouquets are Fairtrade so grab one of their beautiful  gift bags and fill it with this little lot…..

M&S English Breakfast Teabags

English Breakfast Teabags, 50 teabags: £1.75

Blended from a range of carefully chosen teas from some of the world’s best known tea growing countries, you just can’t beat a cup of builders. We love the pretty packaging too.

SWEET JASMINE PEARL GREEN TEA

Jasmine Pearl Green Tea Pyramids 15 teabags: £3

That being said, it’s always nice to have something a bit special to hand too. This blend of jasmine scented and green teas with sweet liquorice and rosehips is the perfect afternoon pick me-up.

HONDURAN GROUND COFFEE

Honduras Ground Coffee: £3

Wake her up with this fantastic value, well balanced coffee. With a fresh, bright acidity and cocoa tones, this is made from 100% Arabica beans and ground so it’s easy to chuck in the French press.

Dark Chocolates with Raspberries

Chocolate: £2 Each

We don’t know a mum on this planet that wouldn’t appreciate a few bars of quality single origin Fairtrade chocolate. The paired back packaging bely the top quality goods inside. Choose from Dark Chocolate with Raspberry (our favourite!), Dark Choc, Milk Choc with Butterscotch & Maple Syrup or Dark Choc with Chilli if you’re feeling daring. Hell, don’t choose, get them all, she deserves it.

Selection of conserves: £1.80 each

Sweet & Fruity, Rich & Tangy or Sharp & Sweet, this selection of conserves are just the thing for a sweet breakfast treat this Mother’s Day.

Wine: £8 each

She gave it up for 9 months, it’s about time you returned the favour. The unoaked and easy drinking Cabernet Sauvignon will be perfect with a spring like roast lamb (extra points if you’re cooking!) or if she’s more a white wine drinker the Chenin Blanc is dry and tangy.

Fairtrade Pink Roses £25

Flowers: from £25

And to finish off your gorgeous selection of goodies, it’s got to be a bunch of Fairtrade flowers. We learnt how to arrange them with M&S but they’ve done all the hard work for you (and we all know M&S flowers last the longest!).

M&S Joanna Lumley

So even if you leave it to the very last minute (naughty, naughty) we guarantee our handy guide will earn you maximum brownie points AND you’ll be doing your bit for communities all over the world. Quite frankly, if it’s good enough for Lumley, we reckon your mum will love it.
