Ever heard of shuffleboard? No? Well it’s particularly popular in the states where the game is played in dive bars. In fact whilst we were in New York we got pretty addicted and now it’s FINALLY here in London! Hurrah!
The Little Shuffle Club is the first dedicated bar in the UK and it hosts two classic shuffleboard tables and one snapback table – the first of its kind in the country. The aim of the game is to push your weighted pucks along the table to score points. The closer to the end of the table you can get, the more points you win. It looks easy but a small push goes a long way!
We played for half an hour with just two people but you can play in teams, taking turns pushing the weights. Bookable in half hour slots, we’d recommend an hour as it takes a bit of time to get used to the table, how hard to push, any tactics you might want to employ! We really enjoyed playing and would recommend heading along for an after work drink with a difference.
There is, of course, a bar serving a good range of beers, wine and cocktails. We had the Rested – a mix of Patron Reposado, lime coriander, chilli and sweetcorn syrup. It was like a Mexican margarita and we loved it! You can also order pizza from nearby Voodoo Ray’s if all that shuffleboard-ing works up an appetite.
And if you fancy trying out deck shuffleboard, you can pop down to Truman’s Brewery on Brick Lane where they have 12 courts set up along with a bar and pizza menu.
So if you’re looking to inject a bit of excitement into after-work drinks, we reckon you should give shuffleboard a go!
