As the nights draw in and a chill descends, Jones & Sons launch their winter menu, with a Sunday lunch to knock your socks off and new chef Kieran Hope at the helm.
The new dinner menu still includes some past favourites but it also introduces some well curated new plates. Starters include West Mersea rock oysters with shallot vinegar and an optional extra ½ pint of Guinness; scallops and parsnip puree with grapefruit; and wood pigeon breast, wild mushrooms and damson jus. Meanwhile mains range from lobster, garlic butter, bisque and fries; polenta and wild mushrooms with autumn veg crisps; roast cod, cockles and sea veg; sea bream with alliums; or from the grill, lamb loin chops, cucumber and mint; a 300g Butcher’s steak; 350g rib eye; or a good ol’ fashioned burger with béarnaise or oxtail jus.
If it’s a lazy Sunday lunch you’re after, kick things off with a glass of prosecco then choose from roast sirloin; leg of lamb; or pork belly; all with a Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and gravy. And for the veggies amongst us, it’s a choice of roast cod; sea bream; or wild mushroom, leek and aged cheddar pie. Sides include seasonal greens, cauliflower cheese or macaroni cheese.
Desserts range from orange and ginger cheesecake to poached pear and autumn berries, treacle tart, and clotted cream and a cheese plate.
Brunch favourites remain: grab a bacon sandwich; eggs Benedict; wild mushrooms and fried egg on toast; or smoked haddock, poached eggs, spinach and hollandaise. Or, if you’re looking for lunch try potted pork, pear coleslaw and crackling; chargrilled halloumi, heritage tomato and green sauce sandwich; fishcake, wilted spinach and hollandaise; or a chargrilled half lemon and rosemary chicken with chips and green salad.
Jones & Sons is open daily from 10am for breakfast, brunch and lunch. Dinner is served from 6-10pm (except for Mondays, when it’s closed from 5pm), Sunday lunch from 1pm-6pm. It’s a space to meet, eat, relax and also have the odd drink, where the speciality is quality, well-made British food, be that a sit down meal or a quick lunch. Drinks, snacks and chats are available all day.
With space for 60 covers and offering full table service, Jones & Sons is a break from the clamour of the late-night Kingsland Road institutions.
