If, like us, you refuse to give up on summer just yet, then we have the perfect spot for alfresco dining. John Lewis’ Summer of Sound On The Roof is on at their Oxford Street store and includes weekly Sunset Cinema screenings, cocktail masterclasses and food from Nanny Bills.
Nanny Bills started as a pop-up in markets around London and serves up burgers, salads and sides, with something to suit all – meat-eaters, vegetarians and vegans alike. Their signature dish is the Dalston Dip, the king of burgers! It features an aged beef patty, mustard glaze, caramelised onions, American cheese, Nanny Bill’s burger sauce and a pot of Nanny Bills’ gravy for dipping (or if you’re brave, pouring!). The patty itself was juicy and cooked just right and all burgers are served with fries so the gravy came in particularly useful for dipping our chips! We also tried the Calurori – aged beef patty, mozzarella, shredded radicchio, red onion slaw and basil pestonaise – which felt lighter than some traditional burgers. The mozzarella and pestonaise (see what they’ve done there!) worked really well with the beef patty. We were also tempted by the vegan option, the Lula which includes black bean and quinoa patty, grilled teriyaki pineapple, vegan cheese, pink onions, spicy mayo and shredded lettuce – we’ll have to come back to sample!
They menu also offers a house Caesar salad, grilled halloumi and red quinoa salad and a vegan Caesar salad. But, after all that talk of salad, we can’t stress how much we’d recommend getting a side of the mac and cheese croquettes! Served with grated parmesan and hot sauce on the side, the mac and cheese insides are perfectly gooey and cheesy – game changer!
If you’re interested in the outdoor cinema screenings, they’re held weekly on Wednesdays and there are still four more films scheduled for September; Footloose, Dirty Dancing, Dreamgirls, and our personal pick, Grease! Tickets are £15 and include popcorn and a goody bag and you can order your food and drinks while you watch!
