A simple little A-board informs us that we’ve arrived at Floyd’s on the Lane – Dalston’s latest foodie venue.
Arriving at 7pm, all the little white wooden tables and chairs were packed with pretty smiley faces.
This local Scandinavian gem led us to order wild garlic, mint and courgette soup with ricotta and pine nut stuffed courgette to start. They weren’t fucking about when they say wild garlic!
@andy_wilf described it as “the best soup I’ve ever had” which was just as well because the potent stuff was still knocking about hours later! You’ve been warned.
On to the mains…
Reindeer was served with dauphinoise potatoes and braised red cabbage in a lingonberry sauce which elevated this subtle tasting meat to a worthy dish which could so easily have been all gimmick.
I ordered the very generously sized steak & kernel stout pie which was the comfort food dreams are made off! The wine served in tumblers was great value, as we’re the espressos in place of dessert (too full!) The bill was a nice surprise, very reasonable considering the quality of ingredients & portion size.
We’ll be coming back to try out the pizza section of the menu on the more informal bar stools soon!
THIS VENUE HAS NOW PERMANENTLY CLOSED.
