If you like the idea of a leisurely afternoon tea, sipping champagne and tasting a selection of tasty treats but aren’t sure sandwiches and cakes is enough for you, then the Dim Sum Afternoon Tea at Le Chinois is the choice for you.
Le Chinois is offering the afternoon tea experience with a selection of Asian dim sum. On arrival we were shown to our table and offered a glass of champagne, which of course we accepted, and told that the chef would begin preparing our tea. After about 15 minutes, we were presented with our items, all of which looked equally tempting. The hardest part was deciding which to try first!
The afternoon tea includes the following items; Steamed Minced Pork Dumplings, Crispy Chicken Stick with Sweet & Sour Sauce, Crispy Shredded Duck Spring Rolls with Hoisin Sauce, Sautéed Prawns in Wasabi Sauce, Minced Chicken Lettuce Wrap, Crispy Scallop Rolls, BBQ Pork Bun. For dessert there is Fresh Mango and two types of Mochi Cakes.
The juicy prawns in wasabi sauce were served on a slice of fresh pineapple which gave the perfect combination of sweet and spicy. The crispy scallop roll, something we haven’t had before, was indeed crisp! The scallop filling was full of flavour and perfectly cooked. Other favourites included the steamed minced pork dumplings and crispy shredded duck spring roll – we could have eaten more of everything!
The tea included is a Chinese tea and you are invited to ask for it at whichever point in the meal you wish. We chose to have our tea once we had finished the savoury items (and champagne!) and moved onto the desserts. A slice of fresh mango helped to cleanse our palates, and the mochi cakes, especially the offering with pandan, was a different way to end the experience.
At £25 per person, including the champagne, the Dim Sum Afternoon Tea at Le Chinois is perfect for those looking for something a little different to the usual afternoon tea offerings in London.
