We’ll let you into a little secret. After reading this & this, we’ve found ourselves trying to cut down on the amount of meat we’re eating. (If it’s good enough for Grace Dent…) BUT, and it is a great big fat BUT, fried chicken is something we can never resist. If we’re hungover that’s it – we require a fried chicken sandwich to come to our rescue.
Up until now we’d seek one out on a Saturday where Butchies had a stall at Broadway Market, but now we can get one any day of the week in their first bricks and mortar site on Rivington Street. Oh dear.
And whilst everyone else is chasing the vegan pound, Butchies are sticking firmly to what they do best – chicken. They’ve even gone so far as to remove all the halloumi from the menu, so there’s literally not a single veggie option – you’ve really got no choice but to get on board or live on chips.
The all-day menu features burgers such as ‘The Original’ with house pickles and Butchies’ homemade garlic mayo, and the ‘Jenny from the Block’ with guacamole, chipotle mayo and smoked streaky bacon. Our favourite is the Cheesy Rider which, as you might expect, comes with a layer of melted cheese, pickles and their signature hot sauce. In terms of sides you’ve got the option of fries or MORE chicken – wings or strips, you decide (although the wings did win first place at Wingfest 2017 – yep, that’s a thing).
So whilst it might not be somewhere for meat-free Monday, it’s def one for the rest of the week.
