The Truscott Arms

Locals rejoice! Maida Vale’s much loved boozer, The Truscott Arms is back with a beautifully redesigned dining room and tasting menu to boot.

Escape the jovial atmosphere downstairs for an altogether calmer, more polished experience upstairs. Staff are attentive but really friendly – there’s no pretension here. The open kitchen adds to the atmosphere and we loved the super comfy seats – just what you want to sink into for the 6 courses ahead!

So, you have two choices here. ‘Memories’ is a six course tasting menu priced at £95 with dishes taken from the new a la carte offering. Alternatively ‘Journey’ offers a more mix and match approach which we opted for as Sweatbreads & Black Pudding feature on the set six courses and tend to divide opinion.

We highly recommend the Scallops with bacon and cauliflower for your first course – perfectly cooked and a great flavour pairing. Canon of Lamb makes for a great main course, if you enjoy your meat with its tasty ring of fat intact.

Vegetarians won’t be disappointed with the decadently creamy Colcannon with ragstone, basil oil and black garlic. An extremely moreish and filling helping.

Finish with a pretty take on the classic Chocolate Orange or for an additional £8 the cheese course offers a beautiful selection.

Each dish can also be paired with a choice of exceptional wines from the curated, award-winning list. We liked that there were two choices for each course, one at a very reasonable price, one a bit more special if you really fancy pushing the boat out.

All in all we’d say The Truscott Arms offers fine dining in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. A great local boozer to have on your doorstep, luck Maida Vale!
