Nizuni

Nizuni is located in Charlotte Street and surrounded by top-notch restaurants, but this friendly Japanese joint happily holds it’s own.

On arrival the full-length glass windows were thrown open to take in the buzz of the street, creating a lovely relaxed atmosphere.
Sake cocktails (like vodka but tastier, I was told by our waitress) were a great way to start the evening. Try the Nizuni Sling – a sake take on Singapore’s version or the refreshing basil fresca.
The menu offers sushi & sashimi as well as more substantial plates of fish and meat. This gives you the option of a quick bite or a more luxurious experience. Obviously, we dragged things out!
Starters were really strong and not to be bypassed. Coated scallops with a spinach & peanut sauce melted in the mouth little nuggets that I didn’t want to end. Rare strips of beef tataki in a gherkin & citrus dressing were confidently punchy!
6 pieces of jewel like Yellow tail, spring onion & spicy mayo Uramaki came beautifully presented in a pretty little pot. We wished we had room for more.
From the larger plates, the black cod was finished with a delicious soy crusted skin that melted under your chopsticks. Griddled asparagus were huge chunky pieces with a sprinkling of sea salt. Brown rice was the perfect sticky accompaniment, as was the huge portion of chicken and vegetable noodles.
Don’t leave without ordering the green tea, red bean & black sesame ice-cream platter.
A well rounded Japanese restaurant that manages to be cosy & inviting while still offering top notch cuisine served by friendly knowledgeable staff.
