The May Fair Hotel’s Charbonnel et Walker Afternoon Tea

Launched on the 1st April, The May Fair Hotel has partnered with luxury chocolate brand, Charbonnel et Walker, to create a chocolate twist on the traditional afternoon tea.

Located in the heart of Mayfair, the May Fair Kitchen is a Mediterranean tapas restaurant offering Spanish and Italian dishes. This is reflected in the afternoon tea with a selection of bruschetta in place of the traditional sandwiches. You can expect pan con tomate, cherry tomato and parmesan shavings, spinach and soft cheese, and king crab with avocado and chilli. All were a welcome change to the usual sandwich fillings, the king crab in particular was fresh and light with a nice creamy touch from the avocado.

There is a choice of two scones, Sicilian lemon and Charbonnel et Walker chocolate scone. Always ones to prefer chocolate anything, we were both surprised to find the lemon scone marginally our favourite. The subtle flavour of the lemon shone through and served as a sort of palate cleanser between our savoury and sweet selections!

Now to the main attraction of any afternoon tea (in our opinion!) the sweet treats! A flourless Charbonnel et Walker chocolate and orange cake, sugar-coated doughnut with Charbonnel et Walker chocolate sauce and tiramisu with Charbonnel et Walker chocolate shavings are all on offer. All equally as delicious as the other, we would struggle to pick a favourite, but the flourless chocolate and orange cake might just edge it, if only because we were most unsure of it before tasting!

And if that isn’t enough for you, there are also three Charbonnel et Walker chocolates to round things off – a Pink Marc de Champagne Truffle, Dusted Milk Sea Salt Caramel Truffle and Dark Chocolate Crown. The two truffles definitely stood out here with the Champagne just edging it – we’re a sucker for any kind of Champagne!

A selection of coffees and loose leaf teas are available, alongside a cocktail list should you fancy something a little stronger!

Priced at £35 per person, or £45 with a glass of Moët & Chandon Brut Impérial NV, the Charbonnel et Walker Afternoon Tea runs from 1st April to 31st May. For more information, visit: www.themayfairhotel.co.uk/charbonnel-walker-afternoon-tea
