Hawksmoor Air Street

I’ve always been a lover of steak and a dreamer of eating at the Hawksmoor so we were super excited to go to the launch of Air Street.

Friendly concierge met us and took our coats, friendly bar staff offered us an aperitif, and friendly waiting staff patiently dealt with us while we worked out how we could order EVERYTHING.

We started off with a glass of bubbles – a couple of friends tried the cocktails – the Tokaji Smash, light, fruity and could indeed get you smashed, and the ‘man-friendly’ cocktail Shaky Pete’s Ginger Brew – served in a glass tankard. To start it was a no brainer – I was here for the steak but Hawksmoor Air Street is promoting itself as an upmarket surf and turf. I had to go for some fish and scallops it was. And holy shit balls these were THE BEST scallops I’ve EVER had. I’d been recommended the Porterhouse and it did not disappoint. We shared that and the Bone-in Prime Rib between 4 of us – all medium rare. Meat sweats were happening all over the shop. Triple cooked chips, creamed spinach, my only qualm was that I would have loved the peppercorn sauce to have been a little thicker.

Near defeat we ordered dessert – apple and plum pie – good, but you could find it anywhere, Ferrero Roche Sundae – to die for, and Hawksmoor’s signature Caramel Salted Rolos. You certainly wouldn’t give your last one of these away!

All topped off with an amaretto on ice, we sat for a while dreaming of a bean bag and onesie room out the back. It is expensive – but you pay for quality food, luxurious steak-house surroundings and amazingly unpretentious staff.
