As the days get longer and the nights get lighter, it’s time to shun the carb heavy winter menus and mix things up with sunny seafood. With this in mind we headed to Crab Tavern to check out their new summer menu!
Located in Broadgate Circle (which is always guaranteed to be heaving on a summer’s day), Crab Tavern have both indoor, and more importantly outdoor seating areas.
We started with a cold glass (ok bottle), of crisp white wine and a round of super fresh oysters. They’re served with a red prosecco mignonette made up of finely diced shallots and vinegar – they went down a treat!
If you’re part of a group you’ll love the sharing platters on offer. To start the crab taster provides all the crabby highlights so you don’t feel like you’re missing out on anything. Expect deep fried soft shell crab (yes, you eat the WHOLE thing), crab tacos, crab waffle pieces and gribiche – a creamy mayonnaise-style dipping sauce.
There are also hot platters available as mains featuring everything from lobster, mussels and shrimp.
Not in the sharing mood we opted for roast trout, served with a creamy pancetta sauce with pistachio crumble. Scallops were served with a hearty potato terrine with deep fried cockles.
The asparagus salad with white stilton, chicory & hazelnuts was more of a main meal then a side but ideal if you’re dining with vegetarians. Oh and make room for the chocolate brownie – one of the ooziest we ever did eat.
So next time the sun comes out and you fancy seafood by the sea – Crab Tavern may just be the next best thing.
