Escape the hordes of tourists around Piccadilly and step underground into the cavernous gilded dining room of Brasserie Zédel.
You’ll feel like a tourist now too – albeit one in Paris. Soup of the day starts at an unbelievable £2.75 so perfect if payday is looming.
However, despite the rave reviews we’ve seen, we found dishes to be quite hit & miss. French Onion soup lacked the rich, melty, oozy depth found in Paris. Steak and chips was fine but Scallops with crispy bacon and pea puree was overcooked and cloyingly sweet. Perhaps we just ordered badly.
Skip the after dinner drink and order the peach sorbet which the waiter will generously free pour champagne all over. We all love a cheese trolley and whilst the cheese was fairly basic, the portions were really decent so perfect for sharing.
