PENNETHORNE’S

Like the rest of London, we are always on the lookout for after work alfresco hotspots and Pennethorne’s fits the bill perfectly.

The wine and cocktail bar is located in the New Wing of Somerset House, so it’s a great opportunity to soak up the beautiful surroundings with a cocktail in hand. Think, rich, inky blue walls, super high ceilings and Tom Dixon-esque lighting – a place to linger and savour.

Cocktails use similarly sophisticated ingredients and are named after the surrounding area. The Royale was a good aperitif option (Martini Bianco, peach vodka, strawberry liqueur, chocolate bitters) while the aptly named Somerset was summer in a glass (vanilla Galliano, Passoa, lemon, passionfruit, pineapple).

Wine flights are available priced at just £13.50, allowing you to sample three highlights from the European wine list.

The evening menu provides sustenance in the form of well-priced tapas, go for the three C’s – croquettes, charcuterie and cheeses. Our must order has to be the smoked cod roe with baby radishes – SO moreish.

And if the sun DOES make an appearance Pennethorne’s boasts a spacious terrace for you and your gang to soak up the sun from. Ideal for post-work drinks and pre-theatre pitstops.
