Our top tips for a foodie hygge night in…

As the nights draw in, the overwhelming need to hibernate increases. We reckon this is one of the last weekends of the year where you’re legally allowed to lock the door on Friday night and not resurface until Monday morning. After that it’s Christmas party a go-go.

Here are our top tips for a foodie hygge night in…

First – set the scene. We love getting changed into fresh PJs, lighting a scented candle and curling up under a blanket. Our favourites? It’s got to be this Koto Candle from our neighbours Triangle on Chatsworth Road. Koto is actually Finnish for home so it’s pretty apt. It smells of amber, jasmine and vanilla so is super relaxing. Every time we’re in Cornwall we stock up on these gorgeous wool throws from Cream. Don’t worry – they deliver as well.

Make sure you’ve turned the main lights off too, it’s just lamps and candles from here on in.https://www.creamcornwall.co.uk/product/herringbone-wool-throw-bright-pink/

Next up – get the kettle on. Baby it’s cold out there so you’re going to want to warm up – T2’s Hot Date Chai is IN-CRED-IBLE. It smells so delicious that we had to refrain from eating it straight out of the bag. It contains chocolate, chilli and juicy pieces of dates for a sexy twist on the traditional spicy chai, talk about a hot date! Make a big pot of tea and select your favourite mugs.

The Danes are big fans of a little slice of cake to sweeten the mood, so we think they’d approve of Selfridge’s festive salted caramel panettone. It’s sticky, it’s moreish and it’s great toasted. We dare you to stop at just one slice.

But we’re not going to stop there, oh no. This is the ultimate cosy night in and that toasted panettone is made all the better with a big dollop of the new Honey Walnut & Cream Haagen-Dazs ice-cream. Make sure you’ve got it out of the freezer about 15 minutes before you want to eat it, it needs to warm slightly. Give the tub a gentle squeeze, if you see the cream oozing up over the sides, it’s just right.  You may not associate ice-cream with winter, but there’s something so comforting about the swirls of honey and the crunchy walnuts. A  foodie duo made in heaven. And when you pair it with the toasted panettone, it’s essentially a hug in a bowl.

Finally you’ll just need a new Netflix series to get hooked on – if you haven’t binge watched them all already, we loved Black Mirror. Otherwise we hear Gilmore Girls is going to be the next big thing.
