Andaz – 1901 Wine Lounge

Cheese and wine – two of our absolute favourite things ever EVER. So we were delighted to hear that luxury, five-star boutique hotel, Andaz have transformed a pretty spectacular space into 1901 Wine Lounge incorporating both of those things.

Located a stone’s throw from Liverpool Street station – this is set to become our “just one more” location before catching our train home.

The team wanted to offer an eclectic and adventurous selection of wines by the glass (AND the bottle if you really love them), at accessible prices that mean you’ll try something exciting, new and out of your comfort zone.

Expect to find little gems from a host of established vineyards and lesser known producers from around the world. Chilled sparkling red anyone? (Trust us, it’s the new prosecco).

The team at the Lounge are made up of passionate wine aficionados that are on hand to advise, and are fuelled by the belief that wine drinking is intended to be fun for all and not an exclusive experience for the few.

Small plates and sharing platters are just the thing to accompany all this wine. We adored the charcuterie boards, venison sliders and slow cooked beef bourguignon croquettes, but expect the food menu to keep updated to keep things interesting.

And of course you can’t leave without tucking into a cheese board from local cheesemongers Androuet (you’ll find them at Old Spitalfields Market too!)

Making your life easier all round, a selection of wines by the glass have been matched with individual artisan cheeses, such as creamy, soft brie paired with an elegantly smooth Vin De Pays De Mediterranée from the Rhône Valley of France. So you’ll look like you know what you’re talking about, even if you don’t. Did someone say Tinder date?

Get comfy in cosy armchairs or perch at the bar, 1901 Wine Lounge is open from Monday-Friday, 8am until late.
