34 Gone Fishing Pop Up Review

34 is probably one of the lesser known restaurants from the Caprice Group, but we recommend rushing down this week (12th – 17th May) to check out the special new seafood menu that guest chef Ben Orpwood has created.

 

We featured a preview of this last week but can now give you a helping hand ordering the very best of the best!

From the Raw Bar, the Sashimi platter is pretty impressive. Delivered on ice in a huge silver shell with super fresh wasabi – this is one to wow your dining partner.

Ben has made it his mission to make tofu sexy and the Japrese salad is just one of the dishes in which it features.

Seared Isle of Mull scallops were AH-MAZ-ING with a bit of a kick thanks to the jalapeño coriander sauce.

The ‘XO Shellfish’ was a huge portion of surf clams & mussels in a warming broth, while the Madagascan Giant Prawn is a monster and came with kombu butter to slather all over for that extra decadent touch.

Baked salmon came all wrapped up and like a kid at Christmas we ripped of the packaging and loved what we found. The slightly blackened skin was so good we couldn’t stop even though we were pretty full by this point.

 

 

Vegetarians are catered for with the Baked eggplant in miso which totally looked like a big juicy steak! The grilled avocado with soy were a lovely light side regardless of if veggies are your thang.

 

 

And while this is a FISH pop up – these guys are known for their steak. So it would be rude not to order the Japanese Beef. OH MY GOD – forget the fish (don’t really!!) this beef is so so so good and totally different to any other beef we’ve tried in London. The fat is salty and dominate, yet there is nothing to chew – it quite literally melts all over your tongue. This must be how the phrase was invented.

As if you have any more room you can’t leave without trying some more sexy tofu.

Yes, tofu dessert. That crafty old fox has come up with TOFU CHOCOLATE MOUSSE. Which we promise will convert the most ardent tofu hater.
