Scrolling through Just Eat on a Sunday night brings up 193 takeaway options. If you narrow this down to only show Chinese food, you’ll still be left with an overwhelming 23. So if you need help cutting the wheat from the chaff, look no further than Zing Zing.
Although we love good Chinese food, it has had a bit of a reputation for being laced with MSG so we can’t help feel a little guilty when we succumb to our cravings.
However, there’s really no need to feel that way anymore as Zing Zing makes delicious, chemical free, modern Chinese food to takeaway. Hurrah!
We loved the huge variety of dishes and were reassured that everything is made fresh on site from good quality ingredients (they don’t even have a microwave!)
Jeremy Pang (from School of Wok) is the executive Chef and himself and the team have come up with an exciting menu at very competitive prices.
Delivery is pretty speedy from either Blackstock Road (delivering to Highbury, Islington, Finsbury Park, Stoke Newington & More) or Kentish Town Road (delivering to Kentish Town, Camden, Belsize Park, Hampstead). And everything comes helpfully labelled (if like us you over order and forget which is which!)
We suggest getting the gang around and ordering a good mixture of dishes so you get to try as much as possible.
To start, Salt & Pepper squid had a light crispy coating and came with a little pot of sweet chilli & lime dipping sauce. We got in quite a mess devouring the sticky pork ribs, the tender meat fell straight of the bone and is glazed in a sweet BBQ sauce – get the tissues on standby! Classic duck spring rolls were delicious, packed full of filling and served with the obligatory hoisin sauce dip. If dumplings are your thing, don’t miss the pork and goji berry ones – it’s practically a superfood.
Don’t take too long scoffing that – you don’t want your mains to go cold!
Beef in black bean sauce is a favourite of ours and Zing Zing’s take came with an interesting splash of beer in the sauce for added depth of flavour. Firecracker chicken felt super naughty – coated in a crunchy layer, the tender chicken thighs are then glazed in a vibrant red sweet & spicy Korean hot sauce. Very addictive – you have been warned.
The highlight for us has to be the coconut tamarind prawns. Big juicy prawns are lightly battered and served in a sweet coconut milk and tamarind sauce with a kick. We loved the contemporary twist on egg fried rice. Zing Zing use edamame instead of the more commonly used peas – top marks.
You’ll need something to wash all of that down. Zing Zing’s Bubble Teas are perfect – bridging the gap between dessert and drink. Freshly brewed jasmine tea is iced with cold sweet soya milk and we added Lychee Juice pearls for that all important POP!
