CityMunch, an app that allows diners to claim real-time discounts of up to 50% off their bill, has launched in London…
We gave the new food discount app a test drive with a visit to pre theatre fave Le Garrick. A small and delightful french restaurant that has you venture below the busy footfall of Leicester Square and all of its tourists and makes you feel like you’re a foreign visitor – on a Parisian holiday maybe. It’s hard not to feel like you’ve escaped London briefly as you sit in the warm, dark, should-be cobbled, corridors of their dining area.
The app is easy to use – you search for your favourite restaurant, check to see if they have a discount on offer and simply book your voucher. You can’t book with the app but you also don’t need to pay anything so it’s as easy and non committal as turning up during the allotted time that the voucher is valid for and showing your phone to the waiter once you’re there.
This doesn’t sound like anything special initially but when you think that restaurants can push discounts in real time during a lull in covers then you can grab yourself some great last minute deals at some great places – not your typical Pizza Express coupon you found online!
Le Garrick proved to be a brilliant choice with its beautifully intimate setting and great service. On top of a thorough menu which ranged from escargot, of course, to a delicious coarse paté plated without fuss. Oh and of course we kicked things off with their latest champagne cocktail menu.
We’ll definitely be using the CityMunch app again and no doubt we will use it for Le Garrick again!
