Too early to succumb to full blown Sunday roasts? Had enough of the summer BBQ’s? Well fear not because we’ve discovered the ultimate way to round off your weekend, introducing – Tandoor Chop’s Sunday Mighty Thali.
Priced at £25, it’s to be taken by the whole table and includes absolutely everything you could want from the North-Indian a la carte menu, delivered to your table on a silver platter. If you’ve been to India before, you’ll be familiar with the thali concept, although we never met such an epic example on our travels.
We dived into bowls of nutty Delhi mix scooped up with mini poppadums, a refreshing kachumber salad, beef keema topped with pink pickled onions, black dahl and gunpowder spiked fries. We chomped our way through buttery naans, scooped up scraps with bone marrow butter naan and ripped up chickpea roti. From the tandoor you’ve got a leg of chicken, half a roasted aubergine, huge chunks of lasooni paneer and those amritsari lamb chops. As far as we can tell there’s not a veggie specific option, but even if you took out the chicken and lamb, they’d be plenty to fill you up.
The black dahl is honestly one of the favourite things we’ve ever put in our mouth and might even make it onto our death row meal menu.
If you’re still boozing by Sunday afternoon, there’s a good selection of wines on the menu (we like the dry Riesling from Washington) and a dedicated G&T menu, otherwise the non-alcoholic pomegranate fizz will pep you up.
Top tip: before the waiter whizzes off, get them to point out the two desserts – you don’t want to get a mouthful of sweet carrot half way through a lamb chop – trust us.
