It’s not often that a restaurant completely surpasses expectations – but Plateau manages to do just that.
Located on the 4th floor of Canada Place, Plateau have launched a special six-course Blossom City Tasting Menu available with matching wines, expertly and lovingly paired by the enthusiastic team. The floral menu fits perfectly in the light and airy space, with floor to ceiling glass you feel slightly like you’re sitting in a posh Greenhouse. In a good way.
A delicate Gin Fizz begins proceedings alongside the equally delicate amuse bouche of white tomato velouté.
Tomato is rarely considered an exciting ingredient, however in this dish you could practically taste the spring sun ripening the veg, and we loved the theatre of it being poured at the table.
Next up, a seared scallop is paired with a tempura oyster in lettuce velouté – our new favourite way to eat oysters and a great contrast in textures. The minerality of the matching wine was a perfect pairing.
A choice of meat or veg options runs throughout the menu and generally speaking the meat option is the stronger of the two. The exception to this rule is the incredible potato risotto (think a cross between gnocchi and classic risotto) with poached egg, broad beans and Cornish leaves – although pretty filling, there wasn’t a drop left. So so delicious, my meat-loving partner had serious food envy!
An ingredient that can split opinion – the Rose Veal rump, served pink on smoked potato, was utterly delicious – regardless of your stance, it’s pretty hard to resist. The presentation of the side vegetables, complete with edible flowers was a sweet touch.
A basket of treats awaits you for dessert – an edible garden complete with a VERY special surprise from Canary Wharf jewellery designer, Cadenzza. We don’t want to completely ruin the surprise but you will not leave disappointed.
A glass of the sparkling rose Moscato was the perfect, fun finish to the evening.
Priced at just £60 for six courses or £85 with the wine pairing – it’s one of the best value menus we’ve come across for some time and the attentive team are the icing on the cake.
