Fancy cooking alongside award-winning chef Mark Hix? Well turns out you’ll be able to do exactly that (and from the comfort of your own home no less) as he’s teamed up with Plymouth Gin for a very special, one-off virtual cook-a-long on the 1st October – and you’re invited!
Hosted by Mark himself and a Plymouth Gin distillery bartender, you’ll be taught how to cook two delicious fish dishes, paired with two iconic Plymouth Gin serves, from the UK’s oldest working distillery.
Tickets can be purchased from Fever and will support Call4Fish, an initiative from the south-west which helps UK fisherman and local traders. The city of Plymouth has a long and proud fishing industry and Call4Fish was set up in direct response to Covid19, to enable people to buy safely and to help UK fishermen and local traders. If you’ve not checked it out yet, we think it’s a fantastic resource.
In the session, you’ll rustle up a starter of mackerel ceviche with cucumber and vegetable crisps, perfect for sharing. The main event will be a trio of poached fish with a side of baby spinach and parsley, simple to make but full of flavour.
On the drinks menu will be the Plymouth Aromatic G&T, perfectly paired with the flavours of the ceviche – a blend of Plymouth Gin, Fever Tree Aromatic Tonic and garnished with a lemon slice. Matching the flavours of the poached fish is the classic Plymouth Fresh Gimlet – Plymouth Gin shaken up with fresh lime juice and sugar syrup and garnished with a lime wheel. Ticket holders will be sent ingredients beforehand and invited to follow Mark and Luke Vardy, Plymouth Gin distillery’s resident bartender, at home, to create their own delicious dishes and cocktails.
Mark says of the collaboration, “As well as the gin itself I have fallen in love with Plymouth! Not just the beautiful Sound Bay but the amazing fish that’s landed, so it’s great to be able to share my love of cooking this fresh fish at the virtual cook-a-long with Call4fish and Plymouth Gin”.
Attendees will receive a Plymouth Gin box, with all the kit they will need for the session, including two Plymouth gin miniatures, G&T glassware, garnishes and ingredients, their very own Plymouth Glug Jug, as well as fish supplied by Call4Fish.
The event will be taking place on Thursday 1st October from 7pm with tickets priced at £35, which includes access to the session and the cook-a-long kit. Over 18s only.
