London Fashion Week may be over for another season but Mayfair Kitchen will be serving their special LFW inspired menu until the 28th February.
As The May Fair Hotel is the official hotel during the five day event, it makes for an excellent place for a spot of people watching – who doesn’t enjoy gawping at the fash pack? Both the bar and restaurant areas had a fun, upbeat energy about them (even on the Monday night we visited!). The setting is pretty gorgeous – expect floor to ceiling windows, a central wooden table for large groups and a striking light design.
They’ve also teamed up with Roland Mouret this month to create a special window display in honour of his 20th anniversary as a designer. ‘The Look of Love’ is his declaration of love to the city where his career began and will be on display until the end of Feb.
In keeping with the event, the special LFW menu features healthy, vegan soups and salads which complement the existing Mediterranean menu of Spanish and Italian small plates designed to share.
Perfect for a light lunch (Artichoke and fennel soup or rocket and pear salad anyone?) we couldn’t resist dipping into the more substantial regular menu.
We were advised to get 3-4 plates each which was ample. We started with a plump Burrata, drizzled in good olive oil and dotted with sweet cherry tomatoes. Burrata is always one of our favourites, but here the hybrid menu allowed us to scoop the Italian cheese straight onto Spanish tomato bread with salty Jamón. An ideal pairing! The arancini were delicious – stuffed with classic tomato and manchego and popped onto a splodge of spicy mayonnaise for depth.
The extensive menu covers pizza, pasta, fish and meat so try and choose a plate from each section to really do the place justice. The lobster risotto was topped with a single seared scallop as the metaphorical cherry on top. We really enjoyed the thinly sliced tuna atop a sweet Sicilian aubergine stew. Lamb cutlets were nice and charred on the outside (as they should be!) with a garlicky Gremolata.
We love a good tiramisu and enjoyed their deconstructed take on the classic Italian dish. We don’t want to spoil the fun but expect a generous shot of espresso spiked with Disaronno
If you’re not ready to end your night there, The May Fair Bar will be serving ‘The Love Collection’, a limited-edition cocktail menu inspired by ‘The Look of Love’ available from the 17th -28th February. Cocktails include, Love, Pisco, lemon juice, fresh basil, egg white and hibiscus tea topped with soda, Passion, Tequila infused with orange, Cointreau, strawberry shrub and spiced honey syrup, Adore, Jameson, Black Sambuca, elderflower cordial, egg white and lemon juice and Desire, Gin Mare, beetroot and carrot juice, with their Mary mix and thyme syrup.
