Here at Crummbs HQ we love Italian food, hearty, simple pizza and pasta – we can’t get enough.
However at La Tagliata we were presented with a beautifully simple Italian concept that turned all of that on its head.
Situated near Liverpool Street, this area is thriving with great restaurants at the moment, we are big fans of nearby New Street Grill. La Tagliata brings something fresh however and would make a perfect corporate lunch or a romantic date night for two.
Forget rustic Italian trattoria, think slick, modern and new.
While choosing our wine (only one of which is by the glass, again, keeping things streamlined) we were presented with a generous Italian bread basket filled with focaccia alongside good quality oils & balsamic for dipping.
Start by choosing tagliatelle with either pomodoro, pesto or limone. The rich, perfectly seasoned tomato sauce was simplicity at its absolute best. You just can’t beat a great tomato sauce and this was perfection. Finished with a swirl of pesto it really hit the spot.
The limone was much richer than expected and indulgently creamy. A little went a long way.
Main course is either sliced steak served on a bed of rocket with parmesan or vegetarian option Scamorza.
Both of us went for the steak which was perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection with a subtle but noted difference between medium rare and rare.
This simple dish came with cubed rosemary infused roast potatoes or the more traditional shepherd potatoes which are as indulgent as dauphinoise but cooked in stock instead of cream.
Now if you stop here, congratulations – you’ve eaten no more than 650 calories (minus the wine and tempting bread basket at least!) Helllllllllo London Fashion Week! :-S
But really, with things going so well, why would we stop here! The tiramisu was a generous portion of indulgence, as was the cheese board – expertly sourced, you won’t leave hungry!
Two courses will set you back a reasonable £24, or for three courses expect to pay £29.
