Located on Great Eastern Street, you may well have walked past Jones Family Project without realising all that’s going on below.
Because what you can’t see from the street is the sprawling metropolis secretly serving up fantastic steak!
The cocktail list can be enjoyed on the ground level – perfect for after work drinks!
Pretty extensive, it’s helpfully split out by spirit, and as we’re a sucker for anything sparkling, we were drawn to Hibiscus Champagne & Don’t get in a Muddle!
Both were perfectly summery, well put together and good value. We loved the cucumber on a stick!
However, it’s downstairs where things get really interesting…..
Low lighting gives way to sexy booths & we loved the playlist – think Sam Cook!
The menu draws on good quality ingredients with everything sourced from the very best producers & suppliers (the steak comes from The Ginger Pig no less).
Tomato, Cheese & Risotto Cakes weren’t as heavy as they sound (which is a very good thing when I think of what came next!) and were drizzled with an almond, basil pesto.
A huge plate of spiced crispy squid arrived with lime mayo & a chilli mango sauce – we reckon this is big enough to share!
The focus here though has to be that steak. Ginger Pig meat, cooked in the Josper Charcoal Oven, it really doesn’t get much better.
If you’re feeling reallllllllly naughty you can add a topping of freshly shaved Belper Knolle, a mature cheese, which is then flavoured with freshly ground black pepper, salt and garlic.
Not normally one to order fillet, I was swayed by my enthusiastic waiter (“It’s the best steak I’ve ever had) and was delighted when it came out cooked to perfection (rare), juicy and full of flavour.
My guest was equally thrilled with her sirloin on which she’d added porchini & truffle butter.
We loved how many butters and sauces there were to choose from, everything from classic Béarnaise & Red Wine to Chimichurri & Smokey Chipotle.
There is an ENTIRE potato menu! Truffled Potato Dauphinoise sounded divine but we just had to get the Truffled Mac & Cheese – we were not disappointed. SO GOOD.
And because these guys seem to have thought of everything – the wine list is pretty extensive and you’ll often find specials on offer too so it’s worth asking for a recommendation.
I was hoping I wouldn’t have to admit to ordering dessert on top of that little feast but Anna’s Triple Chocolate Brownie with Gelupo’s coconut sorbet & salted caramel sauce is simply too good not to mention.
Great music, great wine, cocktails, a potato menu, and BLOODY GREAT STEAK. What are you waiting for.
