Best-selling food writer and chef, John Gregory-Smith has announced an incredible new pop-up dining experience at the recently opened Great Guns Social restaurant in Borough, London.
The events will see diners journey through Morocco, from the Atlas Mountains to the Atlantic coast and through the royal kitchens of Fes, with a selection of dishes Gregory-Smith learned and created during his travels of the majestic North African country.
Expect good music with a laid-back atmosphere and sociable dining, John says: “I’m super excited to be bringing Moroccan feasting to London, with authentic dishes from my travels, and a banging cocktail menu to make it a proper night out!”
Guests will be invited to tuck into a series of Meze starters from the Atlas Mountains, where John spent time living with local tribespeople, learning their unique methods and recipes. An optional second course from the Atlantic Coast, sees Gregory-Smith preparing a charred squid, served with preserved lemon dipping sauce, before the pièce de résistance is served – a main course of M’Hamer – Royal Lamb Tagine, straight from the magnificent royal kitchens of Fes.
The four-night pop-up, which opens on November 15th, will bring the true flavours of Morocco to the capital in celebration of the release of his latest book, Orange Blossom & Honey, which saw the writer learn from locals, families and traditional recipes to create a range of dishes that celebrate the rich culinary history of the country he fell in love with when he first visited over a decade ago. Now John has been given the opportunity to share his dishes with diners at Great Guns Social, a restaurant which champions incredible chefs through a unique residency programme.
Celebrity chef Maria Elia curates a schedule of pop-ups for the Borough venue, giving kitchen residencies to both established and up-and-coming stars of the culinary world, ensuring an ever-changing menu and dining experience for guests.
Tickets for the set-menu dining experience are priced at £39.50, with the addition of the squid course adding an extra £8.50.
‘From the Souks to The Sahara: A culinary journey through Morocco with John Gregory-Smith’ takes place from November 15th – 18th.
Each session will incorporate a single sitting dining experience, with John Gregory-Smith on hand to talk diners through his creations throughout the evening.
John will also host a special, one-off Sunday brunch session on November 19 in aid of Clerkenwell Boy’s #CookForSyria charity.
