Excitingly, the long-awaited Jersey Royal season is back, and this April until end of June, the nation’s favourite new potatoes are cropping up everywhere from major supermarkets to Michelin-starred restaurants across the UK.
This season, Jersey Royal New Potatoes has launched a new initiative; The Spring Edition, which showcases the versatility and unique taste of Jersey Royals through exclusive seasonal menus at top restaurants across the UK.
Last night we were invited to Anglo who put together an inventive tasting menu with Jersey Royal’s featuring in every dish.
We started with a Jersey gin and tonic garnished with one of the little spuds no less, before sitting down to Jersey Royal bread with yeasted butter.
Next up was Jersey Royals with black garlic and cured egg yolk, salt baked jersey royals with horseradish and caviar dill and mackerel with buttermilk Jersey Royal tartare. Don’t think they dessert was a spud-free affair. No way. The clever team presented us with apple crumble with Jersey Royal ice cream. Yep, you read that right.
Fancy getting in on the action? Well, luckily you can, with restaurants serving up a variety of exclusive dishes. You’ll find ‘Papas con Mojo’ (salt-water boiled potatoes with red & green spicy sauce) at Bar Tozino, billy goat tartar with fermented Jersey Royal crisp, pickled shiso, reduced beetroot kombucha and chewy beetroot dice at Marylebone’s Carousel, spring minestrone at Cleveland Arms, Jersey Royals with fontina cheese, rosanna onions & black truffle at Spitalfields Galvin Hop and Jersey Royals with asparagus, bacon and tarragon at HIX amongst others.
Of course, you can also enjoy them at home with jersey salt, lots of butter and fresh mint.
