What a difference a year makes… twelve months ago, a previously unloved car park in the heart of Brixton was given a total transformation, with Pop Brixton opening its doors to some of the best and most exciting local independent traders. Now, one year later, the site is throwing the mother of all birthday parties… introducing 1 Year Here, a four-day extravaganza celebrating all that’s great about Pop Brixton and its members.
The festivities will kick off on Thursday June 2nd, with the following activity confirmed across the four days….
Thursday June 2: Pop Feast Birthday Special – Pop Feast goes XL, with a mammoth 8-course tasting menu, contributed to by each and every one of the venue’s fabulous food vendors, including Mama’s Jerk, Made Of Dough, Viet Box, Kricket, L’Amuse Bouche and many more. Container Records, Reprezent Radio and BoomBocs will be spinning the tunes, with decorations from Restoration Brixton and Barnaby & Co, and servers decked out head to toe in threads from Make Do and Mend, AFRORETRO and Queen Of The Harpies.
Tickets are priced at £45 per head, offering guests the chance to sample the entire Pop Brixton offering in one experiential extravaganza.
Friday June 3: Prohibition Birthday Ball – Dust off your trilbies and fish out those flappers, as Pop Brixton becomes a time machine to the roaring 20s for this very special Prohibition Birthday Ball.
Expect performances from Swing Patrol London and The Shirt Tail Stompers, with the usual Pop traders serving up their signature food and drink throughout, before electro swing group SWINGROWERS bring the house down.
Entry is free, with 20s dress actively encouraged!
Saturday June 4: 1 Year Here – The Birthday Party – And so to the big one… the centrepiece of Pop’s birthday celebrations is a 12-hour live music event on a scale that the venue has never seen before! Bring your dancing shoes for an all-star line-up of afrobeat, hip-hop, jungle, dub and vinyl-spinning artists, including Rebel MC, Rodney P and Lazy Habits.
Tickets will be available for £5 on the door, with a limited number of £3 earlybird tickets available from DesignMyNight.
Sunday June 5: Shop ‘til You Pop Market – After all that partying, time for some retail therapy, with Pop taking the opportunity to throw the spotlight on its wide and varied retail offering. A vast market of clothing, accessories, furniture, beauty products, flowers and food will be taking over the site’s main square, with all manner of goodies available, from homeware pieces from Barnaby & Co. to summer dresses and accessories from Queen of the Harpies and Make Do and Mend.
