Dalston welcomes new pop up Hand of Glory, a new pub, food and music venue from JaguarShoes Collective.
Our friends over at The Dalstonist first alerted us to the wonderful rumours that the guys behind JaguarShoes would bring us a friendly new local and we are pleased to announce what a welcome addition it is!
More grown-up than anything found on the Kingsland Road, Hand of Glory adds to the growing food and arts scene at Hackney Downs, sitting comfortably alongside The Russet and Hackney Downs Studio monthly market, Village Green.
Down to earth friendly staff welcomed us for Sunday lunch – today they offered a choice of Roast Beef (£14) or a Chicken & Ham Pie (£10) both served with all the trimmings (parsnips, roast potatoes, kale, red cabbage, carrots, gravy), along with a vegetarian option of Mushroom & Cheese Pie. However I understand this will change weekly so give them a tweet if you want a heads up.
The theme being pagan British with walls decorated in wicker masks and giant maypoles, the obvious tipple here is home brewed cider or a posh G&T, while wine by the glass represented good value for money.
Despite very hearty mains we just about squeezed in dessert for the sake of research. The British Cheese board had a selection of 3 crackers & tomato chutney. Feta was an interesting choice that shouldn’t have worked but did.
Apple and Pear Crumble with Whiskey Cream came in a bowl big enough to feed a family of four. Or one very hungover person.
A heart-warming lovely new local – we are already hoping the pop-up turns permanent.
