After a very warm reception in Notting Hill, this autumn sees the Aussie brand of Dayrooms Cafe branch out and launch their second restaurant, this time in Holborn.
The new location is more of a takeaway space with a beautiful marble top displaying the goodies. As with the first restaurant, the menu will be seasonal and takes inspiration from the healthy Aussie East coast.
To start the day we spied fluffy lemon ricotta pancakes with roasted fruit, or cherry & poppy seed coconut waffles which we’ll be ordering with a flat white to go (they use Ozone Coffee Roasters).
But we were here for lunch and tucked into their weekly-updated array of fresh salads – think tahini spiked greens, roasted squash and panzanella – which are delicious on their own but can be the base for a more substantial main. We couldn’t resist the decadent veggie lasagne and the Bajan prawn tacos. If you’re after a protein boost, you’ll love the confit trout with radish and herbs or the sticky sesame chicken breast.
We also snuck in a little taste of their ham & gruyere toastie on sourdough which was AH-BLOODY-MAZING. We’re worried it might become a fully-fledged addiction.
To wash it all down grab one of their super healthy smoothies – the green one is a concoction of kale, spinach, cucumber, apple and ginger. Super delicious and blended to perfection we could feel the start of our cold disappear.
With a strong emphasis on sustainability, the venue is only using compostable, recyclable materials so expect your lunch in a cardboard box whether you take it away or eat in. The cafe is also striving to be zero waste and for their opening they will be partnering with The Felix Project and donating leftover food each day to the charity which helps reduce food waste and food poverty. These guys are all round good eggs!
