Dalloway Terrace have teamed up with last year’s GBBO winner and author of recently released cookbook ‘Comfort’; Candice Brown, to create a very special Afternoon Tea.
If the word ‘terrace’ at this time of year, has you reaching for an extra jumper – fear not! – this is a fully heated covered space, decked out with fairy lights, foliage and marble tables. The result is rather beautiful, think European café culture with a bit of magic. In fact it did rain the night we were there and it only added to the romantic feel of the place. There’s even blankets on the back of chairs so you can def leave the extra jumper at home.
We started with a glass of Perrier-Jouët (what else!) and selected our tea. There’s an extensive list to choose from but we recommend the Chinese White Leaf tea – very delicate it went really well with the food and even the champagne.
Testing out all the recipes at home in her little kitchen, Candice has taken inspiration from traditional afternoon tea favourites and given them a fresh lease of life. So instead of bog standard egg & cress, you’ll find Egg Mayonnaise & Cured Streaky Bacon in Pain de Mie. Chicken & Chorizo was sandwiched in a chunky granary roll with tomato chutney and the smoked salmon had been cured with beetroot for a vibrant shock of colour – served open on sourdough with cucumber and dill. There was even a bitesize Leek & Smoked Haddock Tart with Gruyere Cheese.
Next up was the scones with a choice of both sweet and savoury. The Feta & Courgette was good but the Orange & Cardamom, slathered in cream (first) and jam (second) was heavenly.
We finished with a top tier of mini sweet treats. Think Lemon Drizzle cake spiked with gin, pretty Meringue Kisses sandwiched together with passionfruit curd, and mint chocolate brownies. However, the Peanut Butter & Jelly Profiteroles were a unanimous favourite, really light and delicious, we’d happily devour a plate of them alone!
Candice says: “I am so excited to be collaborating with Dalloway Terrace for this new Afternoon Tea. I love the atmosphere on the Terrace and I have worked really hard to create a menu that is both elegant and delicious. I can’t wait for people to start enjoying it in this beautiful setting.”
The new Afternoon Tea, is available daily from 12pm-4pm and priced at £35 per person or £45 when enjoyed with a glass of Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut NV Champagne.
