Clutch Chicken

Tucked away down a side street near Columbia Road, Clutch offers up the kind of fried chicken you don’t feel ashamed of eating at 6.30pm on a Tuesday.

Venture behind the bright yellow facade and you’ll be rewarded with some of the best chicken in town, accompanied by probably the best playlist! Obviously the chicken takes centre stage, BUT there’s some damn tasty extras that you won’t want to miss. The KFC – that’s Korean fried cauliflower – is deep fried cauliflower. Yep, deep fried cauli! And it’s delicious, too. Fried in a light tempura batter with a black vinegar and mirin sauce, it’s light, full of flavour and we almost forget we were eating cauliflower! The beets with parsley, pistachio, pesto and mozzarella, and the roasted corn with garlic and black pepper are also great additions to eat alongside all the chicken.

But of course, we came for the chicken, and great chicken it is. The lemon and parmesan buttermilk fried chicken was delicious – we were advised to have this with the truffle aioli to dip in and we implore you to do the same. The spicy chilli crispy fried chicken wings were also great, the perfect heat for us that built nicely as you ate them.

Clutch have also just launched a new summer menu – a whole rotisserie chicken with two sides for £24 or half a chicken with 1 side for £15. Served Monday to Thursday, it will be served alongside the regular menu in case you can’t resist something fried…
