Good & Proper Tea Clerkenwell

Championing proper brews and crumpets, Good & Proper Tea have opened up their second shop. Now in Clerkenwell.

Having roved around town and the summer festival circuit with their crowd-funded mobile brew bar, one thing is clear – there’s a real appetite from London’s tea lovers looking for a decent cuppa. Their first bricks and mortar Tea Bar opened in Shoreditch in December 2015; their second, larger, Leather Lane site opened its doors last month.

Whether as a quick pick-me-up on the way into the office, as a spot of elevenses or as a handy nook to nestle in with a laptop and a steaming bowl of soup or a fresh baked madeleine, visitors will be able to grab-and-go or settle in to the 28-seat restaurant and watch the Steampunk in action. The team will also help customers choose the right tools to brew their teas to perfection at home with a beautiful selection of tea paraphernalia sourced from around the globe.

For the peckish, Good & Proper Tea have come up with the ideal pairing to their teas – a full sweet and savoury crumpet menu! They spent months testing recipes, working with first Kitchen Cooperative (www.thekitchencooperative.com) duo, Ben & Georgia, on the recipe development and then together with their lovely in-house baker Helly, testing out their wares on the foodies of Brockley Market and settling on a Classic Buttermilk Sourdough, Rye and even a Gluten Free Crumpet with an inviting selection of toppings from Lime Curd to Marmite & Cheese and Smoked Salmon & Cream Cheese.

Those looking for a hearty lunch will find a Daily Changing Soup served with Fresh Sourdough and house-made Butter; Sausage Rolls with Pork Fennel & Chili and for afters there are Apple or Jam Turnovers and big, chewy American- Style Cookies. Die-hard coffee lovers won’t be left out, with a monthly rotating Filter Coffee on offer.

All of Good & Proper Tea’s crumpets, jams, soups, breads & cakes will be house-made at the Leather Lane site, including their salted butter, a bi-product of which is the buttermilk used to make the crumpets! perfect match for a crumpet is a cup of tea!”
