Flat Iron Steak

I write this with a sense of dread. I don’t really want to compete with yet more people for a delicious ten quid steak, nor do I want to alert the restaurant to their monumental pricing error.I love Flat Iron from back when it was a pop-up at (my favourite pub) The Owl & the Pussycat. We go way back.

So I made sure I was one of the first through the door at its new permanent home in Soho.

A much bigger venue, with 3 floors, but you can still expect to queue (my advice; go at lunch) or for them to sell out of steak completely. Yep, it happened.

The menu hasn’t changed – you have one choice and one choice only. Flat Iron Steak, with a little side salad that comes in a cup.

However you have your steak, its good– its really good, and all the while you’re thinking – 10 POUNDS, quick, eat up before they notice. My favourite side is the roasted aubergine with tomato, basil and parmesan, but I’m also partial to the creamed spinach and Sophie’s salad with blue cheese, pecans & lemon dressing. While you’re making this difficult choice (it’s not difficult, sides are very reasonably priced at £2.50-3.50, so get them all) you’re presented with popcorn in beef drippings……..nuff said.

Don’t forget to pop downstairs for a doughnut before you leave!
