The sun is finally shining and what better way to celebrate than London City Beer Week!!!
London is hosting a series of events in partnership with a number of top breweries and restaurants. The guys at Pizza Pilgrims on Garrick Street are joining forces with Camden Town Brewery and Birra Del Borgo’s to create a new beer which will be paired with a newly created summer pizza. Pizza Pilgrims sure know how to do pizza! When brothers James and Thom went on a pilgrimage to Italy to discover the true art of pizza making, they came back to London and became well known on the street food scene, selling slices from their modest Piaggio Ape van. Since those days, they have opened three successful restaurants in Central London.
We were lucky enough to test out three of these cheesy bad boys with the winning one being served at the Garrick Street location over London City Beer Week! They were all mega tasty, but we adored the courgette, gorgonzola and rosemary combo! We then tested a smoked mackerel, olives, capers, ricotta and chilli pizza which was a huge hit with the crowd! The final pie to be served was a porchetta and lemon pizza, the thin slices of lemon were surprisingly super refreshing and the citrusy flavours paired really well with the beer. So what’s this new beer we speak of?! It’s a blend of Camden’s Gentleman’s Wit and Birra Del Borgo’s Enkir Saison which resulted in The Italian Gentleman! The beer is super fresh with floral tones, the perfect summer brew really!
Test out the winning pizza – Courgette, Gorgonzola and Rosemary! – and wash it down with a pint (or two!) of The Italian Gentleman from Tuesday 9th August to Sunday 14th at Pizza Pilgrims on Garrick Street. Only a tenner for a pint and a pizza…what are you waiting for?!
